Holidays with kids: 8 destinations they will love
Choosing well with children
Activities suited to their age, short trips once there and easy breaks: here are the destinations family-travel specialists recommend most, and what kids love doing there.
Florida: the parks of Orlando
Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando for theme parks, the Kennedy Space Center to see real rockets, and an airboat ride in the Everglades to spot alligators. The Gulf of Mexico beaches round off the trip.
Costa Rica: the jungle up close
Sloths, monkeys and toucans in Manuel Antonio National Park, hanging bridges above the forest near the Arenal volcano, and night walks to spot red-eyed tree frogs. Older kids can try surfing in Tamarindo.
Denmark: the land of LEGO
Legoland and the LEGO House in Billund, home of the famous brick, then Copenhagen and Tivoli Gardens, one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, with its rides in the heart of the city.
Iceland: spectacular nature
Geysers erupting at Geysir, waterfalls you can walk behind, boat trips to see whales and, in summer, puffins. Geothermal pools, often with water slides, are a hit with everyone.
South Africa: safari and penguins
A safari in Kruger National Park to see elephants, giraffes and zebras, the penguins of Boulders Beach near Cape Town, and the Table Mountain cable car for a view over the whole city.
Japan: theme parks and traditions
Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Universal Studios Japan in Osaka with its Super Nintendo world, the Ghibli Museum near Tokyo, and the free-roaming deer of Nara Park.
Bali: calm beaches and the monkey forest
The Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali Safari Park, easy walks through the rice terraces and the calm waters of Sanur and Nusa Dua, perfect for little ones.
Algarve: cliffs, caves and water parks
A boat trip to admire the Benagil caves from the sea and the cliffs of Ponta da Piedade, the region's water parks, and the little train to Barril beach, between lagoon and dunes.
Our advice
Plan one big activity a day and keep free time for the beach, the park or a nap. Book the most popular sites in advance and check the recommended age for each activity on its official website.
