A question about cruises?

Wéa answers: departure ports, seasons, itinerary ideas.

Where to cruise

The Caribbean

From Miami and Florida, the Dominican Republic, Martinique or Guadeloupe: a different island almost every day, from Saint Lucia to Antigua and the Bahamas.

Ideal for seeing several islands in a week

The Mediterranean

From Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa or Civitavecchia (Rome): Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Malta, a city steeped in history at every port. Main season April to October; some cruises sail all year round.

Ideal for cities, culture and food

The Canary Islands and Madeira

Volcanoes, beaches and mild weather in mid-winter: a great alternative from November to March.

Ideal for winter sun

The Emirates and the Gulf

From November to March, from Dubai or Abu Dhabi: skyscrapers, desert and calls in Qatar or Oman, under pleasant sunshine.

Ideal for a change of scene and winter sun

Northern Europe

In summer, from Southampton, Hamburg, Kiel or Copenhagen: Norway's fjords, the Baltic capitals and endless days.

Ideal for landscapes and a cool summer

South America

During the southern summer, from December to March, from Santos (São Paulo), Rio de Janeiro or Buenos Aires: Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina.

Ideal for the trip of a lifetime

When to cruise

Nov – AprWinter sun

It's the best season for the Caribbean, the Emirates, the Canary Islands and South America.

May – OctEurope at its best

The Mediterranean is at its best and, in high summer, the Norwegian fjords and the Baltic open their season.

Choosing your cruise

The right length

A week (7 nights) is the most common format: enough for 5 or 6 ports without rushing. Ideal for a first cruise.

The cabin

Inside (the cheapest), sea view or balcony: you'll mostly sleep there, but a balcony makes all the difference at sunset.

What's included

The price covers the cabin, meals at the buffets and main restaurants, and the shows. Excursions, wifi, some drinks and the onboard service charge are often extra: check the total price.

The ports

The ship stays a few hours in each port. Plan your visit or book an excursion to make the most of it.

Travel documents

Depending on the ports and your nationality, a valid passport, a visa or a travel authorisation (such as the ESTA for the United States) may be required. Check the documents required with the cruise line before booking.

Peace of mind

Cancellation insurance is useful, especially for a cruise booked far in advance or during hurricane season.

Ports to discover

These destinations are frequent cruise ports. Discover their neighbourhoods, their seasons and where to stay before or after your trip.
