The story of WÉ
Hi, I'm Willem.
I'm a young guy who'll soon be 30, and I've loved planes since I was little. I could spend hours watching them take off, imagining where they were going. Every time I watched a film, it wasn't just the story that grabbed me, it was the landscapes. I'd tell myself: one day I want to go there. I want to live that moment.
Later, I worked at the airport as a ground handling agent. For me it was an exceptional time: every day I saw people leaving, coming back, finding each other again… I understood that travel isn't just a destination. It's an emotion.
Why WÉ?
To be completely honest, my personal situation worried me. I wanted to give more to my family and be able to provide for them with more peace of mind. So I searched, a lot, for a way to build something that's truly me.
And the idea came: to put my passion for travel at the service of others. To create a place where planning a trip becomes a pleasure, not a chore. Where you find where to go, when to go and where to stay, simply, with Wéa to help you.
And yes, I used artificial intelligence to build WÉ: for the illustrations, for Wéa, and to help me create the site and translate it into five languages. I have no team and no big budget, and AI let me bring to life a project close to my heart. But the desire, the story and the passion for travel are very real.
WÉ was born in Martinique, and that's no accident. My island is Mount Pelée and the northern peaks, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's the ruins of Saint-Pierre, the Schœlcher Library, Diamond Rock, Les Salines beach and Anse Couleuvre. It's also the yole ronde, a unique know-how on UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list, and a sugarcane know-how celebrated around the world. Growing up here teaches you that a beautiful place is meant to be shared. So WÉ was born in Martinique, but it's open to the world.
It's free for you: when you book with one of our partners, I earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That's what keeps the site going, and helps my family a little too. Thank you for that.
"Wé!" is the shout you let out when you go on holiday. So… where to?
— Willem
